Thomas Knowles, Echo Conservation Society
Thomas Knowles was born and raised in southwest British Columbia, spending his youth hiking and exploring coastal mountains. He became involved in wildlife conservation after watching a documentary featuring Pacific Wild’s work to protect the Great Bear Rainforest from Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Project.
In the last decade, he has worked on numerous wildlife protection initiatives, including direct action campaigns with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to disrupt illegal commercial whaling in Antarctica. In 2014, he cofounded the Echo Conservation Society to address wildlife and wilderness conservation in British Columbia. In recent years, Thomas has worked on projects to protect mountain lions, wolves, grizzlies and endangered mountain caribou.
Today, he spends most of his time in the field, tracking large carnivores and identifying habitat necessary to protect endangered species.
